• Mellers Duck
The Mellers Duck is a dabbling duck endemic to eastern Madagascar. Although there was a population established on Mauritius back in the 18th Century, this population due to competition with feral duck populations and habitat loss is nearly extinct.

This duck is on the endangered classification due to huge recent habitat destruction, causing many birds, including this one, to have a massive decline in numbers. And although this bird will breed readily given the right conditions, because of it being near in looks to the female mallard, and at that considered a rather drab duck, very little has been done to preserve this duck.

You can see this bird in much of the UK, but for England, where it becomes more common in winter. We also get birds arriving here from Europe.
